Our Newborn Essentials

As first time parents, my husband and I wanted to make sure that we can anticipate our baby’s needs by preparing the newborn necessities before his arrival. We got to try what works best for us based on the most common recommendations.

Here are the things that we found useful for our baby in no particular order:

Snuggle Me Organic Lounger Our baby takes long naps on this, it’s also great props for photoshoots! I love how this was designed to mimic the womb so our baby feels that he’s being hugged all the time, thus, longer rest for him and for us! It also prevents flat head syndrome because it follows the contour of his head and it’s not firm nor flat.

Love to Dream Swaddle

With Love to Dream Swaddle, our baby sleeps longer and he is more relaxed. It lets him keep his arms up (the position that he loves) and he is able to self-soothe as he can move his arms to his mouth. It has double zippers that facilitates easy diaper check and changes. Unlike conventional swaddles that he can try to unwrap, love to dream swaddle gives us peace of mind that no loose clothing gets to his face that could obstruct his breathing. Plus, he looks like an angel everytime he’s wearing it!
Magnetic Me Footies This is amazing! It made our lives so much easier! For the first few days, our baby would always get fussy when we we’re changing him, it was always a struggle to snap the buttons together, until we started using Magnetic Me onesies! The hidden enclosed magnetic fasteners makes the diaper changes hassle-free! A definite must have!!

Babysense 7 – Under-The-Mattress Baby Movement Monitor

This is my favorite! For the first few nights, I would constantly check on my baby because I was really paranoid about SIDS. We saw some devices that would check baby’s oxygen saturation, breathing and heart rate but did not really appeal to us because they have to be worn by the baby. The unit is connected to sensor pads placed between infant’s mattress and crib or bed base. It did not have exposed wires that the baby can grab. It monitors and detects even the slightest baby’s movements through the mattress. The monitor will go off if it doesn’t detect any movement for 20 seconds or less than 10 micro-movements in a minute. It’s amazing how the sensors catch every breath and flinch, so when the baby, God forbid, stops breathing, the alarm will go off. As first time, nervous parents , it gives us peace of mind and allows us to relax and sleep when baby’s sleeping knowing that he is safe and breathing!

Papablic Baby Bottle Electric Steam Sterilizer and Dryer

We absolutely love this sterilizer! It’s a 3-in-1 device that delivers steam-powered sanitization with hot air-drying technology. It’s very easy to operate and can hold a lot of bottles. It has the dry and extra-dry feature so we don’t have to air dry anything on a separate rack, thus saving counter space! Once the cycle is done, the bottles are ready to use, no moisture or water marks! Tip: Clean the base with vinegar every 1 to 2 weeks to get rid of the white residue, let it soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

Anti Colic Bottles

Choosing the perfect bottle for your baby takes trial and error. We tried every top rated anti-colic bottle. Our top pick would easily be Comotomo as it is very easy to clean, you don’t need a bottle brush since it has a wide neck. It has a double vented nipple. We love the soft silicone body! Our baby latches perfectly on this!

Babo Cush

Babobush is a comfort cushion lounger that has soothing vibrations that can help relieve colic, trapped winds and reflux. It can be used on its own or attached to a rocker or swing. It’s also a great way to do tummy time! When our baby gets hiccups, we put him on the babocush and his hiccups will disappear in 2 minutes! I was hesitant to get this at first because it can only be used for 6 months but it’s a game changer, it helps us calm our baby down!

Boppy Pillow

Don’t underestimate the power of Boppy Pillow! It’s not only a nursing pillow but it’s also great when you have to put the baby down for brief periods. We also use it for tummy time.

MamaRoo Swing

This is a must have especially for new parents! It’s the only infant seat that moves like parents do when soothing their babies. It has five motions, five speed options, 4 built-in sounds and can be controlled on your smartphone app.

Baby Wrap

There’s a lot of options for baby wraps and carriers but Solly Baby Wrap is my fav because it’s soft and breathable! There are times when my baby wants to be held all day and this allows me to be close to him and gives me some freedom to get things done in the house. All babies enter the world with an affinity for warm, tightly contained environments that replicate the mother’s womb, according to Dr. Larry Gray, medical director for the Fussy Baby Network at the Erikson Institute. Baby wearing is proven to have a lot of benefits!
Wearing him lets us bond more!

We found these useful and effective for us and our baby! Every baby is different, you’re welcome to share what worked best for you!

  1. I’m a little paranoid myself, and that under-the-mattress sensor is just the sort of thing I’m going to need. Thanks for this great list of reviews!

  2. I’ve seen people use swings like the MamaRoo, but I’d never heard of it being controlled through an app. I love the idea. Definitely worth gifting to new moms!

  3. Your baby is ADORABLE! Sooo small and cute! Thank you for the product recommendations. I know the challenges of being first time parents. You always want to make sure your baby is safe. Luckily, these products look pretty good! I know you and your hubby are great parents and that baby is loved!

  4. Yeah the baby wraps and swaddlers are what we’ve been looking for. My wife always needs them and we found these were good ones too. It’s also important for me to use them too coz my wife recently went back to work and I work from home, so thanks for the suggestions!

  5. Thank you for recommending those anti-colic bottles! They’re great and they work! I used to use regular bottles before I even knew they had anti-colic bottles and my daughter would get really bad tummy aches. Her pediatrician was the one who recommended we look for anti-colic bottles and I bought these and they work great! She’s calmed down more and sleeping sweetly again. Thanks so much!
